5woo whoo!!
By K. Bloom
We just received this bike today (delivered by fed ex)... the box was definiely beat up, but the bike was in perfect condition!! We are really happy with it! My son is going to love it for christmas!! He is 4 & 1/2 and about 45" tall, so he is kinda between sizes for bikes -20" is too big and 16" is too small- this is the perfect size for him!! We looked all over for an 18 inch bike and none of them were as cool as this one! I would recommend this bike to anyone with a kid who is in between the most common sizes, but if you don't really need an 18" bike I would just go to target or walmart and save some money just because this one is a little pricy. Hope this helps!!

1Defective Frame
By M. Crawford
I purchased this bike and could not assemble it because the forks that hold the front wheel in place were improperly welded. They were visibly off-center. I agree with other comments that the box arrived in terrible condition, but the reason this is important is that I could clearly see that the box had been opened and re-taped. The brass staples were there but were not attached. This leads me to believe that these bikes are being returned, re-packed and shipped back out for a variety of reasons. The bike looks nice, but quality concerns cause me to absolutely not recommend it.

1Save your money & frustration...DO NOT BUY!
By S. Hamon
First, this bike is more of a purple shade than what is pictured. NO, this is not a problem with my monitor...after receiving the bike and seeing the color difference, I viewed the listing on all 7 monitors (yes, 7 monitors, hubby is an IT freak) we have in our house, as well on 4 cell phones with the fancy screens...it was the same color on all 11 screens, but not the same as what was delivered. My son took one look at it when it arrived and said, "Mom, I can't have a purple bike, I'm a boy, DUH!!" And he is soooo right. I'm wondering if we got one from a batch with a bad paint mixture or if that is the normal color?? I can't imagine it's the normal color and they have the nerve to call it a boys bike. Sooo, minus 1 star for that....Next...Yes, like other reviewers stated, ours arrived horribly damaged. So much so that UPS literally piled the bike parts held together by zip-ties on top of the mangled box on our porch. I'm not deducting a star for that because that doesn't have anything to do with the product ITSELF, but rather a review meant for Amazon and their packaging review section (or possibly to UPS for impropper handling). What I am deducting a star for is Mongoose's retarded idea of packaging materials. Quite possibly some things were lost in my box because there wasn't really a box to contain the parts, but what was delivered had absolutely NO packaging padding or foam of any sort to hold parts from bouncing around in the box. This is why I am assuming the boxes come apart so easily. Problem with the lack of packaging materials is everthing inside bounces around, chips paint, gets covered in grease, and even rips the bag for the front of the bike when it encounters the chain (only reason my pile-o-stuff had the bag with it is because it was entangled with the chain...probably would have fallen out if not...so quite possibly we could look at that as a positive?? Hey, I'm trying to be a bit optimistic here!!). Anywho, minus a star for lack of internal packaging materials....And onto the next item of disgust...I think an intoxicated person stapled the seat cover on the seat because some places had no staples, while others had 4 on top of eachother. And Amazon should really show a picture of the seat pattern close up because it doesn't seem very boyish, but rather "girl trying to be tough". My 6 year old took one look at it and said, "Hey Mom, my sister would LOVE this seat, can we put it on her bike?"...and he is totally correct...very "tough-girlish", but not boyish. Now, what comes next?? Ahhh....minus another star for the drunk seat stapling...I paid what for this???!!?? The price wasn't really a concern for me when I first purchased it because it is very hard to find a decent 18" boys bike...but for what I did pay I expected a bit better of a bike. Yes, it is a Mongoose, but how about some training wheels with actual rubber on them instead of the plastic wheels that go on a 2 year olds bike?? You can't put plastic training wheels on a bike intended for 6-8 year olds and expect it to last more than a few ridings!! You can buy training wheels with rubber on them for less than $12 at most bike stores, would it really have hurt Mongoose's bottom line to upgrade these?? I find it more of a safety matter because the plastic ones fail at higher speeds. Boo to you Mongoose, and yup...minus another star...Am I boring you yet? Lets see if I can speed this up. No front reflector (a MAJOR no-no for a childrens bike...BMX or not), rear reflector is angled towards the ground so it doesn't reflect any light, making it useless...rear reflector also goes on the seat stem so you can't lower the seat all the way down, losing almost 2 inches-so this is more like a 20" vs. an 18"...this doesn't bother me, but might you or your child-bike is designed like a BMX bike & has BMX components...yet the front wheel can't spin all the way around due to the brake cables. I happen to hate the idea of it spinning all the way around, but don't claim to be BMX-y if you can't do the main thing BMX bikes do. Sooooooooo, minus how many stars is that?? LOTS!! Look elsewhere
