Bike is well suited for girls 8+ years old. The bike uses alot of steel, so it is not very light, but I have a similar Diamondback bike of similar weight so I think it is typical for this price category.I found the bike easy to assemble, but requires some minor tuning of brakes, etc to ensure proper function. The bike is a very good value at this price.

This is not a bad bike at all for the price. Is it preassembled $400 local bicycle store bike for a kid? NO. Is it a great deal if you know even a smidgeon of bicycle mechanics? YES indeed.Had it out of the box and put together and rideable in less than 30-45 minutes (and a lot of that was going slow to not scratch it). All you have to do is remove some packing materials, put the front tire on, put the handlebars on, install the pedals, and check tire pressure. Then, a quick inspection of the shifting (fine), the brakes (just a bit of barrel adjustment at the levers), and the wheel alignment/trueness (slightly off, but not more than millimeter or two...which isn't worth adjusting on a kids bike). The grip shifters on this bike are the same that's on our really nice Trek tandem ($1200 originally), so it shifts pretty nice. Not too hard, not too easy. Maybe in a few years it'll be worthy of a couple upgrades as my kid grows to appreciate them....but for now, it's just awesome, she loves the color (lavender), and loves even more to ride it.
