Son LOVES his BIKee!!

My mother purchased last year's model for my son's 3rd birthday (Aug 2011). It is the blue/black one with the two forks on the front, not the newer model pictured. At first I wasn't sure he'd get the hang of it, but within the first few days he was keeping up with his brothers and sister around the block. He is constantly on this bike. I have to keep telling him to take it outside because it's small enough that he likes to ride it around the house on the tile (I do let him from time to time when it's too cold out.).Sadly, the front wheel started having issues and he wasn't able to ride it. When looking at it, it appeared the front nut on the axle had crushed in and was causing rubbing inside the wheel axle. I looked for the hardware to do it myself, but didn't know where to begin. After about a month of it just getting worse, I had my husband take it apart and we discovered the ball bearings had broken on one side inside the wheel axle. Again, I researched where I might get replacement parts. No luck. I finally contacted Trikke via their website and explained what was happening. Duh! I should have done that long ago, but I'm not used to a company standing behind their product nearly a year after a purchase. They were amazing!! Within days they shipped me a completely new front wheel and axle assembly. I had it back on his bike within 5 minutes of UPS dropping it off. My nearly 4 year old has said "Thank you" no less than 10 times and is excited to have his bike back!Thank you, Trikke!! Excellent customer service! Excellent product! We are very happy with this and have looked into purchasing one of the scooters, too.

simplicity and great performance

After using Strider balance bike for 3 months with my twin boys, I've been able to figure out what the pros and cons of that design. I found on this balance bike by Trikke - bikee - most of the improvements I wanted: the long wheelbase, real sealed bearings, an appropriated rake for safe steering, steering stopper (the bike will not jack-knife and punch their body with the handlebar), lighter frame and a simple and off the way foot rest. Also the clear space for walking (most balance bikes have things on the way, that hurts the kids legs). Like Strider, the simplicity is the key - balance bikes don't need brakes, kick stand or air tires. This is the typical case where less is more. I sold the 2 Striders to my neighbor for cheap (he also has twins) and got the Trikke balance bike. They love to go off-road and race each other.

Review of last year's model

This review is for the previous model of the Trikke Bikee balance bike. I don't see it offered on Amazon anymore so I'll put the review under this product. I imagine it's similar.THe Bikee I bought last year was very similar to this one except that it had a regular two-armed front fork and it did not have the foot rest. THe design change is unfortunate. I think the footrest is unnecessary and the single-armed front fork just looks lame.As far as the bike I got, I love it and my 3 year old daughter loves it. She figured out how to ride and balance on it without any instruction from us; it just seemed to come naturally to her. I'm convinced that a balance bike is the best way to introduce a kid to bicycling. I like that the bike is lightweight. It's easy for her to maneuver and push, and it's easy for me to carry in one hand when she gets tired of riding. I like that I can just grab the tubular frame and the bike balances nicely in my hand.Overall build quality was adequate for the price. Yeah, the paint had a few little blisters and the hardware is cheap, but I have no doubt that the bike will last through the next five years and two kids. THe wheel bearings aren't as tight and smooth as those on my thousand dollar mountain bike, but they're good enough to carry a 50 pound kid.The tires are made of a stiff rubbery foam. They give a smooth, quiet ride both on concrete and hardwood floors, and they seem pretty durable.I'm very happy with the Bikee Balance Bike I got.
